CosyFloor FAQ's

Can Cosyfloor™ be cut?
The matting can be cut to fit around fixed objects as described in the Fitting Instructions. The cables must never be cut as this will alter the resistance. However the non-heating cold tails can be cut or extended to the required length.

What temperature will the floor reach?
Approximately 27 - 30°c

Under what floor surfaces can Cosyfloor™ be installed?
Tiling, limestone, marble, stone, carpet, etc. If installed beneath carpet, the cables should be covered with a layer of self levelling compound to guard against possible damage and to give a firm base on which to walk. Underlay suitable for electric underfloor heating must also be used.

How long does it take to heat up?
In normal circumstances, floor tiles will become slightly warm after approximately 30 minutes and reach optimum operating temperature within 1 - 1½ hours.

What are the lead (cold tail) lengths?
Approximately 4-5 metres. These can be cut or extended on site. To extend any normal domestic twin earthed cable can be used. 1.5mm sq will be sufficient as very little current is being carried.

What tile adhesive should be used?
Proprietary adhesive with additional flexible additives or enhancers.

How are mulitple mats connected?
The cold tails go back to the power supply point - this will normally be a thermostat. They cannot be connected together in series.

ECOFLOOR FAQ's

How long does it take to heat up?
Floor tiles will become noticeably warmer after approximately 30 minutes and reach optimum temperature within 1 - 1½ hours.

What is the minimum distance that the cable spacing can be?
It must never be closer than 50mm and the cable must never cross.

If a fault develops can it be repaired?
Providing the system has been laid correctly and tested in accordance with instructions, it is highly unlikely that a fault will develop. However, should a fault arise it can be locally detected with special test equipment and repaired on site.

I want to heat a larger area than any of the ECOFLOOR™ cable kits cover
For larger floor areas, several cable kits can be easily connected to one thermostat. Multiples of the above cable kits should be used. For example, to cover 10m² you would use 2x ECOFLOOR CK5 kits.

ECOMAT FAQ's

Is ECOMAT™ easy to install?
With the help of the simple instructions included (or downloaded here) ECOMAT™ can be installed by a DIY enthusiast without problem. However, in accordance with current electrical regulations, a qualified electrician must make all electrical connections and check the system on completion.

Is it necessary to fit a thermostat?
Although the system can be controlled manually by switching on and off, the running costs will be higher as it will almost certainly be running when not required. We recommend that a thermostat be fitted – normally programmable – as this will make the system work efficiently and with the greatest degree of comfort.

Can the element be cut?
ECOMAT™ is available in standard lengths from 2.0m to 8.0m in 0.5m increments. These can be shortened by cutting along the marked cutting lines in accordance with instructions.

Can the elements overlap?
No, to do so could cause overheating and hot spots.

Is there a limit on the number of elements that can be connected?
The switching of a thermostat is 3500w (15 amps). However, an area can be split using more than one stat or the one stat can be protected via a contactor.

General Underloor Heating Accessory FAQ's

Can a thermostat be used in a bathroom?
Yes, but the controller must be fitted outside the bathroom and the temperature controlled with a floor sensor within the bathroom.

Is it necessary to install insulation beneath underfloor heating?
Whilst it is not necessary it is highly advisable to prevent downward wastage of heat and thereby increase the efficiency of the system.

What thickness is the insulation?
6mm and 10mm sheets are available here.

Should the insulation be fixed to the floor?
It is advisable to fix it with PVA adhesive.
